The Beauty of Jeju-do in 1 Week – 环绕济州岛7天

IMG 3935 - The Beauty of Jeju-do in 1 Week - 环绕济州岛7天
When I decided to travel to Jeju Island, I wasn’t prepared for the hot weather ☀. I was just considering the flight promotion on AirAsia ✈. As a result, I came back home so much tanner than before that my parents couldn’t recognize me. 🙁 super regret but had so much fun! If I had a chance to choose my travel period again, I will reconsider the season before pressing the keyboard too quickly.

Jeju 7 Days Road Trip Itinerary

Day 1 ( Jeju International Airport – Dongmun Traditional Market – Mysterious Road – Loveland )

Head over to Wiyo in KLIA2 to collect your pocket wifi device! Wiyo has been one of my favorite Pocket Wifi Brands as it provides good services and great coverage at overseas. I tried many other brands and they gave me troubles such as slow internet and network problem in certain areas. On the other hand, Wiyo is super light to carry on and it provides unlimited data in Korea! How awesome is that!?  ♥

After safely landed at Jeju International Airport, I followed the signboard above that leads me to a free shuttle bus that sends us to the designated Car Rental location. Jeju is one of those destinations ideal for self-driving as the roads aren’t congested and it’s easy to navigate around with GPS. Having your own car also beats having to wait for buses and squeeze in a crowded bus with tourists. Attractions in Jeju are faced out far apart, therefore, a car is necessary. I rented a mini car called “Morning” from AJ car Rental for RM5xx for a week long. The car was fuel-efficient that I only need to pump once thorough my trip driving the entire island.

After getting the car, it is time to FLY! But first, let’s head over to the hotel to drop off my heavy luggage. I stayed at Hotel Haru for the first two nights at Jeju City. All the hotels that I stayed in Jeju cost lower than RM200. Some are quite small, others were surprisingly spacious. I was lucky to have a sea view on the last day of my stay. After settled down at the hotel, I head over to Dongmun Traditional Market to fill my empty stomach.

Dongmun Traditional Market – Seafood & Agricultural

IMG 3636 1024x768 - The Beauty of Jeju-do in 1 Week - 环绕济州岛7天

There were not many things to see at Dongmun Traditional Market. Most of the shops sell agricultural products and seafood, while others sell chocolates and tangerines which are the two very famous items in Jeju. However, most of the stores are mainly for tourist and thus, snacks and drinks were over ₩ 9,000 which could kill you on Day 1. But as a tourist, who cares? ヽ(^◇^*)/

IMG 3589 768x1024 - The Beauty of Jeju-do in 1 Week - 环绕济州岛7天

After filling my stomach, it is time to uncover the truth behind the Mysterious Road in Jeju! Objects on the road roll up the hill instead of moving downwards. How could this be possible? Well, to be honest, it is just an eye trick because of the surroundings. Don’t be a fool tourist. (ᅌᴗᅌ* ). The other thing that caught my attention was the huge mother pig and her 9 piglets statue beside the mysterious road. It was a nice sunset before heading over to my last but the most interesting destination of the day!

Jeju Loveland- Where the imagination run wild

In contrast to most of the attractions, Jeju Loveland, being a sex-themed sculpture park, breaks the traditional taboos regarding sex. When I was young, I use to be skeptical about the existence of this place. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I finally arrived at Loveland. How did South Korea build this sex theme park when we all know that Asians are relatively conservative at that time. The truth is that Jeju Loveland is an outdoor sculpture park, opened in 2004 which focused on running sex education films, featuring 140 sculptures representing humans in various sexual positions. (◡‿◡✿)

 IMG 3706 768x1024 - The Beauty of Jeju-do in 1 Week - 环绕济州岛7天

Encompassing an area the size of two football fields or 39,667m², all of the sculptures can be viewed in approximately one hour, and there is an additional monthly rotating exhibition in the indoor museum, featuring works by different Korean artists such as the wooden sculpture of penis, collection of adult toys and imaginative artworks of sexuality.\(^-^)/

Admission Fees: Adult ₩ 12,000

Day 2 ( Hallasan Mountain )

Hallasan Mountain – 10 Hours of Hike

IMG 3886 1024x768 - The Beauty of Jeju-do in 1 Week - 环绕济州岛7天

Hallasan Mountain is the tallest mountain rises up proudly from the center of Jeju Island. The summit sits at 1,950 meters above sea level and is the longest mountain I have ever hike up and down in a day. To begin with, you must know that there are a total of 5 trails to choose from:

– Seongpanak Trail:
Seongpanak → Dongneung Peak
9.6 km / 4 hrs 30 mins each way

– Eorimok Trail:
Eorimok → Nambyeok Bungijeom
6.8 km / 3 hrs each way

– Eoseungsaengak Trail:
Eorimok → Eoseungsangak Peak
1.3 km / 30 min each way

– Yeongsil Trail:
Yeongsil – Nambyeok Bungijeom
5.8 km / 2 hrs 30 mins each way

– Gwaneumsa Trail:
Gwaneumsa Temple – Dongneung Peak
8.7 km / 5 hrs each way

IMG 3753 1024x768 - The Beauty of Jeju-do in 1 Week - 环绕济州岛7天

I wanted to challenge myself to the peak of Hallasan Mountain, so I decided to give Gwaneumsa Trail a go! Climbing up was rather easy for the first half of the journey, however, it got tougher in the second half as there were many flights of stairs passing through the forest. The trail is 8.7km (one way to the summit). For those who are concerned about the difficulty, ask yourself if you can climb stairs for about 2-3 hours continuously. I started climbing at 8 am and reached the peak around 1.30pm. Due to the hot weather, it is advisable to carry two 2L water bottles,  two walking sticks, a mini fan, and a lunch box as there weren’t any shops selling food at the peak. The highlight of my visit to Jeju was reaching the Baengnokdam – the crater lake at the summit of Hallasan! ♥ I found it easier to climb up than climb down reason being is because most of the path was covered with uneven rocks, and if you don’t watch out, it is easy to twist your ankle when coming down. My muscle was screaming in pain on the way down. It is a long and exhausting day, but completely worth it!

Parking Fees: ₩ 1,800

Day 3 ( Cafe Cola – Hallim Park – Beach)

Cafe Cola – Coffee & Cola

37340838 10160605087775484 4711330457990463488 n - The Beauty of Jeju-do in 1 Week - 环绕济州岛7天

On the third day, I decided to skip Nexon Computer Museum (however, if you are into technologies, Nexon Computer Museum might be your choice!) and head over to an interesting cafe by the beach! Cafe Cola wasn’t in my itinerary but the red building stood out and caught my attention immediately when we drove passed by. When I first step into the shop, everything was so stylish and cool! It also has a variety of coke collections. ヾ(@⌒▽⌒@)ノ  However, their menu was all in Korean words.  The best way is to just follow the owner’s recommendation of their signature drink – Coffee Coke ( if you are a fan of coffee), or the lemon coffee coke and strawberry coffee coke. Since I am not a coffee drinker, I ordered a lemon Coke and Cherry Coke. The taste was so different compared to the one I had in America. It tastes so much better and fresher here! You can also purchase their limited edition FIFA World Cup cola bottles and many other limited edition products. Remember to head over to the second floor and enjoy the gigantic COKE pillow!

Hallim Park – All in One Park

Halim park is a popular destination with a variety of scenic gardens, two caves & a small zoo, plus a folk village. Visitors can enjoy checking out Palm Tree Road, Jeju Stone and Bonsai Garden, Water Garden, Subtropical Botanic Garden and much more. The most famous tourist sites in Hallim Park are none other than the two lava caves: Hyeopjaegul and Ssangyonggul Caves, known to be the only two-dimensional caves in the world where guests can walk through. These 2 caves were formed by an eruption of Mt Halla many years ago. The temperature inside the caves is around 18 degrees Celsius throughout the year so walking inside was cooling. If you want to see the Tulip Festival, be sure to visit during the spring season whereby there will be various species of tulips, such as Apeldoorn, Shirley, Kees Nelis, Barcelona, Pink Diamond and more. Besides, you can also taste bibimbap decorated with the colorful tulips! ♫❀ After a long walk at Hallim Park, which is almost 100 thousand square meters, it is time to head to another hotel which ironically called the Larla Pension (not Larva).

Day 4 ( Camellia Hill – Jeju World Automobile Museum – O’sulloc Tea Museum – Yeongmeori Coast )

Camellia Hill – The Devoted Love for Flowers

After a few days of outdoors activities at the parks, this place has somehow become a little boring to me. However, it is the place where you can take wonderful and sentimental photos 🙂. The best season to visit is Spring and Winter, between November and the beginning of March. Visiting on summer season made me feels like hiding indoor with a cup of ice chocolate on my hand. (*^ -^*) Camelia Hill is famous for its camellia trees. Camellia flowers come in many colors and shapes! Different species of Camellia were placed separately in different courses, so you literally need to walk from one end to the other to see all the different Camellia. The only thing that kept me alive is the photo zone area! In each section, there will be a decorated photo zone for you to take a photo and keep it as a memory! There is also a glass conservatory and a light bulb forest path along the walkway. But be ppreparedto walk a lot!

Admission Fees: ₩ 8,000

Jeju World Automobile Museum – The Classic & Vintage Cars

Jeju World Automobile Museum displays the history of cars from old to new. They included many vintage cars on display and most of them were executive cars used by dignitaries. If you are a car enthusiast, this is a great place to visit even with your family because the museum has an area where children have the chance to drive a mini car around a track with their parents. Inside the museum, there is also a small theater where you can watch a documentary on the world’s cars. To get into this attraction you pay a minimal fee as written below (Aug 2018), additionally, there is also an outdoor area where you can feed the rabbits and deer! Do pick up FREE carrot sticks from the shop and distribute to the deer! As you wrap up your visit, you can stop by the gift shop for some coffee or automobile souvenirs to bring home!

Admission Fees: ₩ 11,000

O’sulloc Tea Museum – Where Green Tea Lovers Meet

IMG 4855 768x1024 - The Beauty of Jeju-do in 1 Week - 环绕济州岛7天

If you are a green tea lover, you will definitely heard of this museum! Even though they called it a  museum, this is actually a store than a museum due to a very limited information given on the board. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Jeju visited by 1.5 million people annually. So true that the place was packed with tourists and there wasn’t a table to sit down and enjoy my Green Tea Swiss Roll and Green Milk Tea! There is also a Tea time & Tea Stone Tour at a scheduled time where you need to pay a fee to learn about the different types of tea, tips of brewing teas and the O’sulloc story. I also bought a few of O’sulloc Tea boxes home for friends and families! ♥-XOXO-♥ Don’t forget to visit Innisfree Cafe just next to O’sulloc Tea Museum. I will include my trip to Innisfree Cafe the following day on Day5! Stay Tune <3

Yeongmeori Coast – Dragon Head Beach

Yongmeori Beach aka Dragon Head Beach is a place where Sanbangsan Mountain stretches into the ocean and it looks as if a dragon’s head is going underwater. This area is made of Sa-am stacks, built up over millions of years. When I arrived at Yeongmeori Coast, it was already half past six, well past the closing time to Yeongmeori. I thought all coast and beaches would open 24 hours but I was totally wrong about this. Since I came all the way from the other side of the world, I thought it was a little unfortunate not to enter, so I bravely climbed over the fence (Please don’t do it) and went in anyhow (macam yes). There are Gulbangs here which are depressed into the shape of rooms, and wide rocks stacking up on one another along the seashore cliffs which create a majestic scenery by the sea. Along the road down to the seashore, there is the Hamel Castaway Memorial, in remembrance of Hamel who drifted to this place in 1653. Just off to the right of the beach is a soft and dark sandy beach. You can meet the women sea-divers of Jeju who sell sea cucumbers and stroll on the road that spreads along the seashore. A beautiful place to see the sunset. ☀ If you do go the proper way then you’ll be greeted by a black sand beach at the end which I did not get to see due to the closing hours ! Goodbye~ It is time to drive down to Jungmun and settle down at my next hotel – W Ocean Hotel, which has a free underground car park for tourists and many good restaurants around the area.

Admission Fees: ₩ 2,000

Day 5 ( Cheonjeyeon Waterfall – Innisfree Cafe –  Jusangjeolli Cliff)

Cheonjeyeon Waterfall- Pond of God

IMG 7273 1024x768 - The Beauty of Jeju-do in 1 Week - 环绕济州岛7天

Cheonjeyeon means Pond of the Emperor of Heaven / Pond of God. According to Korean legend, the seven nymphs who assisted Heaven’s emperor would descend from the heavens at night to bathe and play in the waterfall’s pond. The falls are a popular tourist attraction in Jeju-do. Cheonjeyeon Waterfall consists of 3 parts, which are all linked together. The falls were breathtaking. The colors of the water, lake, and waterfall are bright and vibriant. Cheonjeyeon Waterfall is one of the three major waterfalls in Jeju, the other two are Cheonjiyeon and Jeongbang Waterfall. Estimated time to spend at Cheonjeyeon Falls: 45 – 60 minutes, because the 3rd waterfalls required to walk a long trail to arrive. You may also visit the Teddy Bear Museum which is near to Cheonjeyeon Waterfall.

Innisfree Jeju House  – The Natural Beauty

Just 3 min away from O’sulloc Tea Museum which mainly served desserts and drinks, the cafe at Innisfree Jeju House offers more substantial lunch and dinner options. The interior design of Innisfree Jeju House is rather minimalist and zen-like. At Innisfree Jeju House, visitors can experience everything about the brand with a variety of activities that satisfy the five senses. They offer natural soap making classes, cosmetics testing, making your own mask, sticky pad writing, as well as stamps for you to stamp on your personal diary! Don’t you love all these experiential opportunities? I sure do! This is also a great place for you to spend a relaxing time surrounded by the beautiful nature on Jeju Island. Below are some activities that you might want to be involved while you were at Innisfree Jeju House. ✿◕ ‿ ◕✿

Jusangjeolli Cliff – Hexagons Rock Pillars

IMG 7412ll 768x1024 - The Beauty of Jeju-do in 1 Week - 环绕济州岛7天

Jusangjeolli is stone pillars piled up along the coast and is a designated cultural monument of Jeju Island. The rock pillars in Jusangjeolli Cliff was formed when the lava from Hallasan Mountain erupted into the sea of Jungmun many years ago. The rock pillars were shaped like cubes and hexagons of various sizes. The administration of the district named them ‘Jisatgae Rocks’ from their old name ‘Jisatgae’. The 20m cliff makes it a popular spot for high tide and sea angling. The waves of the high tide crashing into the side of the cliff provide a breathtaking view of the ocean surrounding the pillars. Spending time here was the perfect way to end my afternoon. (≧◡≦)

Jeju Shinhwa Theme Park – Embrace the Childhood in You

Do you remember the troublemaking bugs that loved to eat more than anything in the world? I used to watch LARVA when I was younger and was instantly attracted to the little red larva by its cuteness, or rather stupidness. Shinhwa Theme Park is a wonderful attraction for children as well as adults developed by a Korea-based, global 3D animation studio that made this lovely animated ‘Larva’ character which is now popular all over the world. The Theme Park is comprised of three zones: Rotary Park, Oscar’s New World and Larva Adventure Village. There are 15 amazing rides and various attractions for you to enjoy at Shinhwa Theme Park. Compared to Everland in Yongin, South Korea and Disneyworld in Orlando, this theme park is way smaller in size and the newest of all. Therefore, it might be a little boring for you if you have high expectation about theme parks, but the good news is that the ticket price is cheaper than the two! ∩(︶▽︶)∩ Let me go through the three zones in detail for you to have a clearer picture of what it is about.

ROTARY PARK – A GATEWAY TO FANTASTIC ADVENTURE
The first amazing thing you’ll encounter entering Shinhwa Theme Park is Rotary Park, a gateway and crossroad to a fantastic world. Rotary Park is a futuristic reinterpretation of steamy factories during the 19th century industrial revolution period. An amazing dance team will give a welcoming performance as you’re entering new space and time. Be sure to check the performance time to avoid disappointment. Also, don’t forget to check out various character souvenirs and food that can only be found at Shinhwa Theme Park.
LARVA’S ADVENTURE VILLAGE –BACK TO LARVA ADVENTURE
In Larva Adventure Village, Red and Yellow Larvas become as big as giants and humans become tiny. Come and feel what it’s like to see the world in Larva’s eyes. Larva’s Adventure Village is filled with exciting rides, a playground anyone can enjoy and a variety of attractions decorated with food. Embark on your trip around the world or a space trip with Larva characters.
OSCAR’S NEW WORLD – AN ADVENTUROUS JOURNEY TO FINDING UTOPIA
Oscar’s New World will guide you to the ancient Inca and Maya Civilizations built in jungles. Oscar’s New World is a recreated ancient city filled with massive stone structures, mysterious temples, and secret patterns. Embark on a stormy and windy journey to finding a new Utopia!

One thing that I dislike about this theme park is that some of the rides are NOT FREE. There are additional charges to each stimulators ride and so on. Be aware to check out them before entering to avoid disappointment! Last but not least, I still encourage families to leave the world of reality behind and journey into the realm of imagination!

IMPORTANT TIPS : Don’t forget to show your flight ticket for an additional 30% off from the ticket price!

There is also a shopping mall beside the theme park where you can dine in. There are also a casino and few luxury hotels that cater to most China tourists. It will probably take a half day to complete the entire “Shinhwa World” in Jeju. •ᴥ•

Ticket Price – Adult : 39,000, Child : 29,000

Day 7 ( Jeju Folk Village – Hanhwa Aqua Planet )

Jeju Folk Village -All About Traditions

6626002 - The Beauty of Jeju-do in 1 Week - 环绕济州岛7天

With a total of 117 houses and facilities, Jeju Folk Village has restored the scenes of the village to that of the 1890’s. Among them are Mountain Village, Hill-Country Village, Fishing Village, and Shamanism Village. When I arrive at Jeju Folk Village, the sun was terribly hot that I couldn’t even open my eyes. There are no trees along the pathway and all I did was hiding under the shades every few minutes of walking. On the land of more than 40 acres, it wasn’t convenient at all to enjoy any of the villages with this kind of weather. The Jeju Folk Village is the island’s main tourist attraction where customs of the old days can be explored. Over 8,000 pieces of folk articles are displayed here such as household equipment, farming instruments, fishing tools, and types of furniture. Since March 2006, Daejanggeum (大长今) Mini Theme Park located at the Jeju Folk Village, offers various things for visitors to see. Many of the scenes from episodes 27 to 32 of the historical drama, in which Jang-geum learns medicine as a maid were filmed at Jeju Folk Village. In order to fit the theme of Daejanggeum, the separate locations have joined together, and are now open to tourists. In the folk performance hall, traditional cultural performances such as folk songs, haenyeo dances, and mask dances are held twice a day. Visitors can appreciate the amazing scenic beauty of Jeju as well as experience the traditional culture of Jeju at this theme park.

Aqua Planet Jeju which runs by the Hanhwa Hotels and Resorts group, has several branches located throughout Korea. However, one particular program that is only found at the Jeju branch is “Haenyeo’s Achim,” which directly translates into ‘the diving women’s morning’ in English. In this program, visitors are able to witness how Jeju haenyeo (female divers) catch various shellfish, seaweeds, and more items underwater. Housing over 5,000 marine creatures from domestic regions and abroad, the Jeju branch is a highly recommended place to visit for all, especially for family visitors. This museum offers versatile features, including an aquarium as the main attraction, in addition to Marine Science, Kiz Planet, and many more convenience facilities. A hands-on experience is also available where children can touch real-life sea animals and partake in many of the science and history classes that are on-going throughout the year. There are fishes from Korea, South America, North America, Asia and other tropical fishes. The aquarium is also home to a variety of large mammals such as seals, dolphins, and walrus some of which perform in the auditorium for Aqua Planet’s guests. The penguin tank is a favorite of many as people can enter into a special viewing area and become part of the tank. This provides for a great photo opportunity. Hanhwa Aqua Planet used to have 2 whale sharks but the whale sharks are no longer held in the aquarium after one died. (Felling so disappointed) 🙁 Yet, It’s a good place if you just want to relax with your family, your friends, or a date!   … (°))<<  ….. <・)))><<

Seongsan Ilchulbong – Sunrise Peak

GOPR0179 1024x768 - The Beauty of Jeju-do in 1 Week - 环绕济州岛7天
Top of the Mountain

Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak rose from under the sea in a volcanic eruption over 100,000 years ago. It is one of the ten most spectacular scenes of Jeju. Located on the eastern end of Jejudo Island, there is a huge crater at the top of Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak. The crater is about 600m in diameter and 90m high. The views of sunrising in the early morning are breathtaking at the summit. I woke up at 4.00am and started to climb up the stairs at 4.30am. I took us less than an hour to reach the summit. My recommendation is to stay at Co-op City Hotel, which is just 5 mins away from Seongsan Ilchulbong. The advantage of staying close to the peak is that you get to sleep longer and better! 😛  Why not? From the top, the 99 sharp rocks surrounding the crater looks like a gigantic crown. The sunrise from the crater is magnificent. I also heard that every New Year’s Eve, people come together to celebrate rising the sun by wishing a happy new year and great fortune. I was lucky to skip the admission fees because I was the first to enter the park and there was nobody at the ticket counter~ Ulala.
